Toshu's Kanji House 14th

Thank you for waiting. Today's guests are these two and .
Actually, I don't have any prior information and I don't know how to introduce...💦

Nice to meet you. Actually, I didn't tell you anything beforehand because I wanted you to guess what kanji we are!!

I see. (^ _ -) - ☆
I was thinking about how to proceed. 💦
HUH? By the way, I can't see .

I just got a call from that he would be late and asked me to say hello to you for him.
So I'll start with you.

That's a pity.
Let you start then, .

Alright!! I was born in 殷"Yin" Era in China as Oracle Bone Script.
So, my age is about 3,300 years old.
Oh, about the era, I will call it 商"Shang", not 殷"Yin", as 身"Body" wrote in her last letter.

Yin was named by people of later generations.
Now, why were you born in that shape?

I have a figure of 人”Person” facing the front and standing with his limbs wide open.
Who do you think I am?

甲骨文字(Oracle Bone Script)

You are standing with your limbs open.
Oh, I guess I know who you are.
Are you 立“Stand”?

Wrong. (*_*;
Then, I would be like this in Bronze Script and Shoten. .
Do you know me?

金文(Bronze Script)

小篆(Shoten)

Hmmmm. You are人"Person" facing the front, right?

Yes, I am.
I would be like this in Reisho.

隷書(Reisho)

Oh, now I got it.
You are 大"Big"!!

Yes, you are right.
I am大“big” in the form of 人"Person" standing with his limbs open.
By the way, I'll show you everything.

草書(Sosho)

行書(Gyosho)

楷書(Kaisho)

Oh, I see.

Toshu-san, "" is not here yet. Actually, there are another kanji character I would like to introduce to you. Is that OK?

Sure, go ahead(^^♪

He is outside. So I will bring him here!!

大"Big" comes back with

Nice to meet you.
I am , a relative of 大"Big".

Nice to meet you.
Thank you for coming.

I was born a little after 大"Big" whom I adore like my brother.
Guess who I am?

甲骨文字(Oracle Bone Script)

You look like 大"Big" standing on the line.

Yes, I am.
Then, look at Bronze Script!!

金文(Bronze Script)

Eiffel Tower?

The Eiffel Tower was not built 3,300 years ago.
And Toshu-san almost said the answer!!

Really"(-""-)"

Then, look at Shoten!!

小篆(Shoten)

Are you 立"Stand", aren't you?

楷書(Kaisho)

Bingo!!
I am a combination of大"Big" and "-(horizontal line)".
In this case, "-" represents the place or position where 大"Big" stands.
The state where 大"Big" stands on "-" is me 立"Stand".

The shape that 大"Big" is standing is 立"Stand".

That's right. (^^♪
And it's a kanji with two of me side by side, what do you think it is?

You mean it is 立立"Stand Stand", isn't it?
What it is...?

Toshu-san, it is almost the correct answer.

立立"Stand Stand"?

Yes, it is.
立立"Stand Stand" is written 竝 in the old character forms.

Is it竝?

Then, Can he actually come in?

Yes, please(^^♪

竝"Stand Stand" is outside, so I will call him!!

{立"Stand" came back with .}

Hello, nice to meet you. I am 竝"Stand Stand".

Hello!

Let me get straight to the point, but please look at my shape in Oracle Bone Script.

甲骨文字1(Oracle Bone Script 1)

There are two 大"Big" lining up, aren't there?

Then, please take a look at the other Oracle Bone Script and Bronze Script.

甲骨文字2(Oracle Bone Script 2)

金文(Bronze Script)

Two guys are standing on the line.
That means there are two 立"Stand" standing in line.
When I look at the Bronze Script, it looks like they are holding hands together, and they are very cute. 💛

You make me blush.
Please look at Shoten next.

小篆(Shoten)

Well, there are two 立"Stand".

Here are two patterns of Reisho style.

隷書1(Reisho 1)

隷書2(Reisho 2)

Oh, I see!
You are 並"Stand in line"!!

That's right. Please take a close look at the old character forms竝"Stand Stand".
It looks like並"Stand in line"(^ _ -).

六朝楷書(Rikuchokaisho)

It's true.
The new character forms 並"Stand in line" is connected by 2 立"Stand". (^^♪

楷書(Kaisho)

Exactly.
People of the later world tied it to make it easier. (Sweat)
I have a shape of 立"Stand" lining up.

That's why it means "Stand in line, Appose, Together with".

And in the Japanese language (Japanese mother tongue), it's called 並"Nami" which means the same as ordinary people 人並(Hitonami) and 世間並(Sekennami).

Wow, I learned a lot!
You are connected to 大"Big", 立"Stand", and 並"Stand in line", aren't you?

That's right. We are all relatives.

That's right. We're all relatives. It is easy to remember, isn't it?

It is very easy to remember!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us.
There are 3 of us. (* ^ - ^ *)

Now, let me accept your kind offer!!
I think there is 位"Rank" in kanji, which is similar to 立"Stand", I was at a loss how to answer when my student asked me "What is 位"Rank" of 六段位(Rokudan-i) ?"

I'll answer that.
位"Rank" and I were actually in the same shape in Oracle Bone Script and in Bronze Script.
At that time, it was a single Kanji, and it had the meaning of both the verb 立つ"Stand" and the noun 位"Rank".
However, around the time of Shoten, people started to use the verb 立"Stand" and the noun 位"Rank" separately.
That's why 六段位(Rokudan-i) which Toshu-san mentioned means that it's in the 位"Rank" of 六段"Rokudan(Sixth-dan)".

I see. Thank you for an easy explanation.

You're welcome.
If there is anything else, please don't hesitate.

Thank you, I think I have asked enough.
By the way, "" didn't show up after all.

Actually, I just got a call from "" that he can't come today.
I received a message saying that he will definitely visit next time, so please invite him again next time!!

I look forward to the next time.
Please give my regards to him.
Thank you for coming today, 大“big”, 立"Stand", and 並"Stand in line".
I learned a lot. ! (^ ^)!

We were happy to be on the show!! {together}
Good bye!

Ding Dong♪♪
